After agreeing to 'assist cabin crew if required' by ticking the box on the screen at the boarding pass kiosk, I was again asked the same question just before boarding.
I replied 'No worries, Cobber' and began to walk down the loading ramp, however, I was shortly ORDERED to 'Come back here' by some officious little creep named 'BANKS'.
Banks then snappily repeated ' Do you agree to assist cabin crew if required to do so?'
I told him I'd already agreed to do this and had also ticked the box at the kiosk.
Well this seemingly wasn't good enough and so he barked;
'Do you agree to assist cabin crew if required to do so...YES OR NO ?'
His attitude was absolutely appalling and so I asked him;
'Well what exactly is it that you would want me to do?' to which he replied;
'Just answer the question. Do you agree to assist cabin crew if required to do so. YES OR NO?'
Well, I'm 61 years of age and an ex Soldier, so I'm not used to being spoken to like a criminal. I told him that his attitude had changed my mind about assistance and said NO.
The PENALTY for this was to have my boarding pass snatched away, be stood to one side, have it announced at some volume, that I had 'REFUSED to assist cabin crew', have my seat reassigned to the very rear of the aircraft despite empty seats everywhere...and be boarded absolutely LAST.
AS IF ANY Australian, Man Woman or Marsupial, would NOT assist cabin crew if asked, anyway.
I assume that the requirement to assist would come in the form of helping to subdue some aggressive drunk or perhaps a potential attempt to take over the aircraft.
The ridiculous part of this, is that I was originally given a WINDOW seat, which would require me to get two people to move out of the way before I could give any help anyway.
Jetstar...you've lost me, and Banks- hope that you never meet me again, or YOU are the one that's going to be needing assistance.

Very typical JETSTAR definitely this guy was the only one impressed by his importance. Typical JETSTAR and why I will never fly the airline or in fact any QANTAS airline anymore. We've lost the gay image of the stewards and now we have the arrogant ignorant self important ones instead - give me the old regime any time . The supreme arrogance of the staff is nothing short of mind blowing. The only real reason these people are employed is to provide assistance to the passengers - their customers - and without who none of theses mindless idiots would have a job and that is certainly lost on them. I used to fly only QANTAS in the late 1990's and through to the early 2010's but after changes in management, drops in standards etc almost any airline including tiger air gets my custom over the QANTAS brand. I was a Platinum member for 5 years as well.
