On Sat 22/09/11 Flight JQ752 Jetstar refused to let my 12 year old son travel from Launceston to Brisbane. They assured me before I booked the ticket that he could travel on his own as an adult once he turned 12 and was in High School. He had a copy of his birth certificate to prove his age and a letter from his high school stating he was in year 7 (first year of High School) written on the School letterhead. The ground staff at Launceston refused to put him on the plane because term one in Tassie doesn’t start for 3 weeks so technically he hadn’t started high school yet. It seems bizarre to me that all they were worried about was whether term 1 had started. Every State has different term dates, Tassie starts later than the rest. If he was in Brisbane he could have flown because they start 3 weeks earlier than Tassie. The kid’s 12 years old and had proof of that. I’ve now had to book him on Virgin who have no such ridiculous conditions about when the school term starts, he just needs to be 12. Only problem is Jetstar was a direct flight from Launceston whereas Virgin is a change of plane in Melbourne which my son now has to navigate on his own. This is the first time he has been able to travel for 3 years because of his treatment for Leukaemia. This was explained to the Jetstar staff in Launceston but they couldn’t care less. I am absolutely gutted how this organization has bullied my son.
Please consider this when you next make an Airline booking.

I feel so sorry for you and
I feel so sorry for you and your son, going through so much hassle.
It's funny, they can tell you one thing just to get you to buy ticket, then tell the rest or bring out a ridiculous rules and conditions... Really enough is enough...
Same goes to me, I double checked and confirmed for my violin, was refused at the gate.
Complete bullies with no consideration for customers who just do what they've been told to do.
Sorry people, that flight
Sorry people, that flight date should read 22/01/11 Flight JQ752

Way to go, Jack! Anon whips out his impotent "jetstar website" rat-fuck and gets owned. LOL
Also the website lists a number that says "call for customer service"... DO NOT beleive anything on the website.
Absolutely f*cking disgusting
Absolutely f*cking disgusting to read this story. I can imagine how I would feel if I were in the same position with my son.
Keep telling your story to people and never fly with them again.
I personally agree that this
I personally agree that this was wrong. However, this occurred due to consistency. It seems the people on the phone gave you incorrect information that a letter from the school saying your son is enrolled to start in 3 weeks would be enough. The actual rule is that the kid must be in high school. Where do you draw the line? 3 months before high school, 3 weeks before high school. It does suck though..
