Change of flight schedule

This is the third time they have done this to me, plus I know of others it has been done to. A month after making my booking I get an email stating "Since you made your booking, we have changed our flight schedule. Please be advised that your flight details have changed. While we try to avoid any changes to our timetable, in this instance it was unavoidable."

Let me tell you there is NO CHANGE to the schedule. The original flight is still available and is being sold. This is being done because they want to move you to a less popular flight leaving your popular flight for those wanting to pay a higher price.

To their credit, when I phoned they put me back onto my original flight. However I then had to go back in and choose my seat again. (the original seat was still available).

Not good Jetstar. This is a bad practice. I choose my flight because it is what I WANT, not what you just want to give me.

They have your money and then they think that they can do what they want. Well not so.

I urge anyone getting this sort of email to check if the flight is still available then to phone and demand to be put back onto the original flight. Following this write an email of complaint. Alternatively fly with another more responsible company.

I've been critical of lots of complaints on this site. Lots are people who seem to want to blame Jetstar for their own failings - i.e. turning up late / not reading conditions etc. This site has been a 'bogan beacon' for people who don't know what they are doing.

Mike's comment however is not one of these. The most common problem / practice with Jetstar is they cancel / manipulate flight schedules. I too have had one of these 'try on' emails only to have it reversed when I've phoned them. This is not a Qantas practice, but its actively done by Jetstar. They sell a seat on a more popular flight , then email to tell you to move to a less popular flight so that they can sell the popular flight seat again. If you say - no I've got a connecting flight etc. etc they will fold quickly and return you to your originally booked flight.

Surely this practice is not

Surely this practice is not acceptable in Australia?
I wouldn't want to waste my time trying to speak to someone on the phone in the Philipines! ...and thats why I dont fly Jetstar any more!!!!!

I believe they do it often to

I believe they do it often to avoid people taking up their "price beat guarantee". If the flight time is not within an hour they don't have to honour it.
