After much convincing from my wife we booked cheap return tickets back on 2nd July to go to and from Darwin at the very end of October. The return date was to be about a week after arrival.
We both booked our holidays in with our respective employers as did my daughter in Katherine so she could spend time with us.
This morning 15th August Jetstar sent an email saying that our tickets for both flights had to be changed and giving the option to choose alternate flights. All of the suggested flights were the shittiest available meaning that they arrived at Darwin at midnight on the up leg and departed from Darwin at 1.30am on the return. Along with this they fell two days outside our work leave.
Upon calling Jetstar my wife was told she would have to fill in a customer complaint form and wait 15 days for a response. After having to be very assertive she got to speak to someone higher up however the best she could negotiate was a different day at one end that still falls outside my booked work leave.
The reason sited by the jetstar CSO for the change of our booked flights was "Passenger Safety". Seriously, Jetstar must be psychic and know two and a half months in advance that those jets at those two different times a week apart are going to spontaneously combust on the runway if my wife and I get on board.
More likely scenario, put out really cheap flights to sucker us in and then whan the special has ended and someone wants to book at a full fare, just boot us.
If your going to have a genuine offer then honour it or make it clear that you are hedging your bets and will boot us if something better comes along.
Now I have to see if I can extend my leave and spend the next two and a half months stressing that Jetstar will just decide to change our flights again.
This to me is blatant scamming and shouldn't be tolerated by anyone.
My wife called Today Tonight and it was obvious from their response that they keep their eyes on the airlines. They hadn't received any other calls re Jetstar changing their booked fares on special to different "shitty" flights but if they were to receive more calls then there may be grounds for a story. I can only encourage you to call them if you're in the same position
You get what you pay for? maybe, but should we be treated as cattle just because we're travelling 'cattle class'. I DON"T THINK SO!!
