I caught a Jetstar flight last Thursday from Melb to Hobart - gate 27 flight info kept changing confusing many passengers - then it was announced the flight to Hobart would be boarding - and as people approached the entrance passengers carry on bags were weighed including handbags. If over 7kg total they were ushered over to another counter to pay a $50 fine and offending bag was added to checked baggage. This only applied to the first quarter of the passengers - including myself - as then the weighing machine was removed as the staff member went to attend to something else. Then passengers were kept in a queue for about 20-25 mins many of them elderly and struggling to stand in the under air-conditioned atmosphere of the Qantas terminal 2 gate27 area. the boarding info at gate 27 kept changing and many passengers were now no longer clear if we were even in the right queue. Once we were eventually ushered onto the plane as as already mentioned there were a number of elderly passengers - I was asked by the Jetstar personnel to assist the elderly passengers with bags etc to get on the plane - of course I don't mind helping - but isn't that their job!!! once on the plane also under air-conditioned we were kept on the tarmac for an additional 30 mins as they electronically started the plane and refuelled or emptied the toilets with this big tube that I could see my windown seat.
i will never fly Jetstar again.

Luggage allowances are clearly on their website

Jetstar are a low cost airline - pay for checked bags next time.
The luggage allowance is
The luggage allowance is clearly stated, but the $50 fine (which it is) is nothing more than ripping off their customers to raise revenue.
Today I was fined $50 for being 2.5kg over the 7kg limit.
My fault for misunderstanding the "combined" weight rule.
My carry-on bag was under 7kg but my hand bag added 2.8kg.
The smugness of the staff member advising me of my error and the overcharging for the minimal weight was enough to infuriate me to the point the beginning of my vacation has been marred.
If I had been charged $10 a kg, I would have thought stupid me, but fair enough.
Having put up with crap customer service after other issues I have had with Jetstar, this has tipped me over the edge. They got their 50 bucks from me, but that will be all they get ever.
This was my last flight with Jetstar or Qantas.
I have never had a bad experience with Virgin Airlines.
