Missed internation flight, wasted huge amount of money due to jetstar

My friend had a flight scheduled to leave from Auckland at 17th FEB 11:50pm heading back home to Korea. She was in Christchurch at that time with me and I got her a domestic flight departing CHCH at 7:30pm arriving in Auckland at 8:50pm
Apparently the flight got delayed for an hour, and I was told by the Jetstar staff that it'll leave 8:30pm, assuring me she won't miss her international flight. I went home ASSURED, and got a call from her that she missed her international flight due to Jetstar flight getting delayed again and departing CHCH at 10pm arriving in Auckland 11:10 pm ish. There was not enough time to claim the luggage, walk all over to the international terminal (it was at night so no bus)and check into an international flight. My friend having no money, rarely speaking much English, not to mention not knowing anyone in Auckland, she had to sleep at the Airport that night, while I called the Jetstar customer service.

Customer service being absolutely terrible, the only thing I could do was send a complaint mail through their website which take 5~7 working days before they replied. Since she really couldn't spend a week here alone, she got money wired from her parents and asked me whether she can take the next cheapest flight out of NZ and get some kind of compensation from Jetstar after she left. So I called back Jetstar customer service and they ACTUALLY TOLD ME TO GO AHEAD AND BUY THE TICKET and comepensation could be rewarded after investigation (checking itinerary etc). She took the next cheapest flight out of NZ on the 21st of FEB (costing $1100), 4 days after her original flight.

I receive Jetstar email about the situation on the 23rd asking me to further wait another 10~13 working days. I received a mail yesterday (4th of March) that no compensation can be awarded because they are not responsible for other flights. So basically my friend wasted $1100 and 4 days of accommodation + food due to Jetstar domestic flight being delayed for 3 hours.

Terrible service, false assurance and promises. I would never recommend taking Jetstar to anyone.

Jae, whether Jetstar were

Jae, whether Jetstar were going to compensate you or not, as your friend needed to get back to Korea I'm sure you needed to book the flight for her anyway. Since Jetstar don't fly to Korea, why would you wait? Why rely on Jetstar's compensation before booking it? I'm pretty sure the call centre (who are just reservations) would have said that anything regarding compensation would need to determined by the customer relations department. You yourself said "compensation COULD be awards after investigation."

Sure it sux, but if you read the conditions of carriage you would note that flight times do not form part of the contract between you and Jetstar. Likewise they do not guarantee connections with other airlines. Being a budget airline, if they guaranteed connections, do you have any idea how many people like yourself they would be responsible for compensating? And you know what that means? Higher fares for everyone!

I have two final words for you, which is also recommended on the website at the time of booking: TRAVEL INSURANCE!

NEXT time to have a time to

NEXT time to have a time to travel GET TO THE AIRPORT well and truely 2 hours in advance before the plane leaves you fool. No offence but im so tired of peeps who end up going to the airport late. Knowing the plane is about to departure and how bad sometimes the airport can be with so many people.

be at the airport at least 2 hours before the planes leaves dont go to the airport late because too many people and too many confusions and going late is your fault.

Umm Maggy (aka Sandra on

Umm Maggy (aka Sandra on previous posts)... she didn't get there late. The Jetstar flight was delayed which resulted in her missing the connection in Auckland with another carrier. You ramble on with an incredible amount of garbage.

There you go sweet heart...

There you go sweet heart... the plane left early because you didnt gave them your phone number so they can text you.
Whos fault is it know love hey sweet heart ?
Let me beging with this.. be at the airpot early and make sure you dont miss the plane just like when you shouldnt miss the school bus. But if the plane left earlier without warning im sure some how all passangers on this time slot would had receive at least warning msg.

So okies the majority of the issues is base on passangers vs jetstar everything in relation to international fliughts... not domestic.

Next time be there in time call up and be sure sweet heart. you foolish old lady

You can't be serious right?

You can't be serious right? My friend already bought a return ticket and had to buy another one way ticket outta here. She wasn't late to the airport or anything, it was just the jetstar flight got delayed for 3 hours which resulted in her being late to Auckland airport. Flight being delayed in a domestic flight is not common. I've been travelling from Christchurch to Auckland all the time due to school and never got delayed once. Certainly not for 3 hours. What's worse about this situation was, that she got on the plane at 8:00pm (after it got delayed) and the Jetstar staff assurred me that the plane will be departing soon. If I knew it would have departed 2 hours after she assured me, I would have atleast called the airline what she was taking back home and tell them she's going to be late or something. She would have had nearly 4 hours to check into the international flight she Jetstar flight got there ONTIME. Look, if the plane got delayed due to weather or other reasons which caused all the flight to be delayed, it would be understandable. But no, ONLY JETSTAR and that plane got delayed. NONE ELSE. And FYI the travel insurance covered by jetstar doesn't cover for other international flights due to the plane being late. Maybe you should check your info you post trash.

People who travel

People who travel internationally on on various airlines can purchase their own travel insurance. Obviously you wouldn't buy travel insurance linked to Jetstar if you're not flying Jetstar to Korea. So do your research and use some common sense loser.

My friend did have travel

My friend did have travel insurance but it doesn't get covered due to the fact the ticket wasn't cancelled prior or was late due stupid reasons. Maybe you should think about it instead of being a wise guy. Why should airline compensate for some other airlines mistakes? There was nothing wrong with the international flight, they did nothing wrong, they are just sticking to the rules. And since you obviously have never read the travel insurance covered by airlines as it doesn't mention compensation for tickets if you were late to check in. Especially not mistakes made by other airline due to being delayed unless they are linked.
So do your research and use some common sense loser.

Sorry to hear this happened

Sorry to hear this happened to your friend. The airline that was taking her to Korea should have been you spoke to, most full service airlines are reasonable especially since there is only 2 major domestic airlines in NZ and flights are late all the time. They could of probably accomodated her on the next flight at little or no cost.

I know this an expensive lesson, but always consider one ticket in future which covers all sectors, even if it is more expensive.

Ignore the people who call you a loser - their comments (and the ability to read English) indicate they fly once a year and yet claim to be an expert.
