Drop the $75 fee per flight to change the person flying.

I fly on Jetstar. A LOT. And for most travellers in Australia, we fly Jetstar because of the great bang for the buck. But there is something so utterly backwards in their system that it just boggles my mind! Let me set the scene for you with these two facts:

For the last 12 months or more you too might have noticed that you don't need to show ID when checking in, if you are doing a bag drop or have your printed copy you just show that and drop your luggage. Nine times out of ten you do not need any ID when checking in.
The new and improved Jetstar website and member log in is great. It keeps all of you and your family members details for easy check in. It's great.
So why on earth does Jetstar want to rip us off when we need to change a person's name for a booking?? This is insane! Let me give you an example that you too might have experienced with changing a person on a booking with Jetstar:

EXAMPLE ONE: Jetstar has a crazy sale and on a excited whim you book tickets for you and 3 friends to go to that great location for a weekend in a few months. The tickets were only $10 each way! Too good! A week or two later a couple of the friends can't go, but two other friends can, how do you change the names on a Jetsar flight? You have to call the customer service line and they can change the person flying - for ONLY: $75 per person per flight. So that is $150 return per person! PLUS they want you to make up the difference in the flight cost. That same flight you got on sale for $20 return is now $340 return, so that means you must pay PER PERSON $320 + $150 = $470 to change a name on the booking!!!

EXAMPLE TWO: You have a some holiday time up your sleave! You decide to take the family {you, your partner and your three kids} to that location in a few months, you look up Jetstar and they ahve a sale! Return tickets with Jetstar per person is only $130. You are excited because it is in your budget, $650 plus fees all up. One month later your two oldest kids are thrilled because they just made the big sporting / debating / dance finals and don't you know it... it's right in the middle of the holiday you booked! Your time for a holiday is locked in so you decide to take two other relatives in their place - you try to change the tickets online, you can't, so you call Jetstar and find out that the tickets on your flight are now $480 return plus the $150 per person change fee. That is an extra $500 per person JUST TO CHANGE A NAME ON THE BOOKING!!!

Dear Jetstar, you tell us that "Low fares are just part of the story" and you also say that you want to help us have travel "more affordable, more enjoyable" - in light of the fact you have an amazing new "my Jetstar" log in system where we can see all of our bookings and change details and in light of the fact that you don't really check for a person's ID when we fly, please just make it simple and free to change a person's name on a booking! It should be as simple as logging in and changing the details of a name. Why are you ripping us off?
