No room for compassion

I hate Jetstar - they wouldn't let myself and my family onto flight that closed literally as we got to the counter even though we were attending my fathers FUNERAL in QLD. The funeral couldn't start until we arrived almost an hour late. What made me even angrier was the supercilious ponce who had no compasion for the situation and insisted on quoting policy like he was reading from a manual and would not get a manager until it was too late. When I wrote and complained they quoted policy again and basically told me to bugger off.

It is unfortunate, and I apologise for your loss, however once check in has closed, it means that the passenger manifest has been handed to the PIC (Pilot-in-Command), so that he can make correct weight calculations so the aircraft can take off successfully, If you and your family were granted boarding at this time, and the PIC was not updated, and made correct calculations, it could result in an aborted take off, which would mean the aircraft would fail to take off, the aircraft would then have to be evacuated, and taken out of service for a lengthy period of time. This is standard with any airline. Should this have happened you would have been more than an hour late.

Maybe if you didn't get to

Maybe if you didn't get to the check-in desk afer check-in closed you would have gotten on that flight !!

Normally when something's closed... It's closed.

Not saying your situation wasn't a sad one, with your reasons to go up to QLD and all, however it's YOUR responsibility to get there on time. You can't expect the airline to control every aspect of your trip from the moment you leave your home to get to the airport & arrive at your destination !!

You write this complaint in the tone of an adult requesting compassion, but this comes across as a child throwing a tantrum because things didn't go THEIR way.

Anonymous - sounds like BS to

Anonymous - sounds like BS to me. I've been late for flights (a long time ago). Arrived at the airport and walked onto the flight literally 10 mins before departure. Many times, but not in the last couple of years since everybody got all anal.

Jetstar have always been notorious for slamming the gate shut 1/2 hr beforehand and telling everybody still in the queue to bugger off.
