The Perils of being helpful

We live in Singapore and have a Filipino helper.
We thought it would be nice to pay for her to go and see her family in the Philippines so we bought her a flight on Jetstar.
The day before she is due to leave we get a text that there is a new policy that for any flights to Manilla from Singapore the card holder has to appear in person at the airport to verify the purchase. Well our helper is leaving at 6am and so will get to the airport at 4am. So I write a letter explaining that we are fine with the flight and confirming we booked it on this credit card and advising them to call us if there is any issue and we will confirm.

So needless to say at 4:30 am we get a call from our helper. If my wife who booked the flight doesn't get to the airport in 30 minutes they will cancel her flights. Jetstar won't talk to us, won't even ask us in person...

So a frantic taxi ride later we get there to check the card.

The staff are arrogant and the policy is petty and racist as it specifically targets helpers returning to Manilla.

Surely that is against some

Surely that is against some sort of law?!

Asking the card holder to be

Asking the card holder to be present at the time of check in is a ridiculous idea that all airlines seem to enforce. It is not a new policy and ceratinly not specific to Jetstar. However, its the arrogant and rude way that the Jetstar staff enforce it that puts Jetstar in a league of its own. The best thing is to never fly with them. Those of us that don't fly Jetstar seem to have a much more relaxed experience.

Not sure if credit card fraud

Not sure if credit card fraud is 'ridiculous'. It's a policy enforced by almost every airline and clearly spelt out when you book.

'The policy is petty and racist.......' Now there's your ridiculous statement!
