Jan 17 we had an approx. 5 pm flight with Jetstar to Osaka from Sapporo. There was a violent snow storm occurring. The plane was delayed for two hours. We were told to go away and return at 7p.m. We did this to be told to remain in the waiting area until further notice as they were checking on conditions and whether the plane was to be further delayed. Two hours later we were further instructed to wait. There was no food available and a drink dispenser. One hour later at 10 pm they announced the plane had been canceled and that we had to collect our bags. By 11.00 we had our luggage. We were one of the last planes cancelled so all the surrounding hotels were already full and had no vacancies. We didn't know the area and we didn't know what to do especially as it was snowing heavily outside.
Some one told us that it had take him 5 hrs to drive what should have taken half and hour. Hearing this we decided it is was probably safer to travel by train into Sapporro.
Jetstar eventually gave us a list of hotels but we didn't know where they were (they certainly offered no help in booking despite knowing for hours there was a good chance the plane was going to be cancelled.) We were told to pay cash to book a hotel by a service desk but eventually they were unable to help us.
.
The train trip that should have taken half an hour took 4.30 hrs due to the snow storm. On the train announcements were being continually being made in Japanese and we didn't know what was happening. At one stage everybody jumped up and change trains (we followed) not knowing why.
We made into Sapporo at 3.30 am and had to bribe a hotel ( who was full) to find us another hotel that had a vacancy. Eventually we were given a smokers room which was almost nauseating.
The next day we returned to find a crowded airport (due to flight cancellations) three staff on the counter, one of whom spoke for hours to one customer. I was told to enter a number of queues to be told again I was in the wrong queue, the staff didn't seem to know what was occurring at the check in.
Eventually going to the boarding area, the same scenario, plane delayed.. ONE small lady on the desk with desperately inadequate English dealing with a lot of very disgruntled passengers. Again we are told to remain in the area... announcements are made in Japanese regularly but not English.
Eventually when the plane took off guess what NO FOOD THAT IS ADVERTISED IN THE BROCHURE but isn't that normal for Jetstar..
