We recently travelled from Sydney to Hawaii return (a family of four). We prepurchaed the plus bundle to allow us to select our seats and include meals (which according to the website when we booked included a hot meal with water, dessert and a bread roll, plus a snack later in the flight). We had no problems on the flight from Sydney to Hawaii, however the return flight was a different matter. Firstly on check in, they tried to put us in different seats than we had selected. We had deliberately chosen the three seats near the window, plus one across the aisle, as my son is a plane buff, and wanted to take photos. As we had paid for the privilege of selecting seats, we assumed this was guaranteed. But oh no, according to the check in staff, the extra fee only allows you to request a particular seat. It is not guaranteed. Another person had now selected the window seat! We could not believe this rort, so much so, we stood and argued with them. In fact I even told them it was fraud. Eventually they relented and bumped the person who they had sold the window seat to, so that we could actually sit in the seats we had booked. When asked how they can resell seats already sold to us, they replied they couldn't see the seat allocation in their list! This was not a pleasant start to the flight, but we had the seats we requested, so we moved on, ready to relax on the flight. However the next drama was the meals, included in the extra charge we had paid. At the first service we were told that we had ordered lunch, so it would not be served until he second service which would be served three hours later. When I asked about the snack that should be included, I was told no extra food was allocated, only lunch. I could have a coffee or tea or water only. I chose water, expecting a bottle or small carton of cold water. Instead I got half a cup of lukewarm tap water! Needless to say, by the time the second service arrived my family was starving. We were ready for our lunch, but again were disappointed. The meal which arrived was little more than a snack. Three small potato wedges and a chicken parmigiana that was smaller than the palm of our hand. But what about the promised bread roll and dessert which should accompany the meal? Not included, on this leg aparently! Again no cold water, only lukewarm tap water. In the end we paid for extra food and bottled water for my starving family which were expected to survive on a small snack for a ten hour flight. I guess this is exactly what jetstar wants, pay for food you don't get, so you have to pay again. In addition to this lack of food, no extra drink, not even lukewarm water, was offered during the flight, the air hostesses were locked away at the back of the plane, while their customers became dehydrated. Our experience with Jetstar was not one we wish to repeat, rude staff, antiquated online system, not receiving food we were promised and arguing over seats we had paid to select. Next time will pay the extra to fly Qantas, who know how to provide the service expected by customers.

Jetstar is owned by Qantas.
Jetstar is owned by Qantas. Maybe the Jetstar bait and switch practices are all part of a grand plan to make their owner look better in comparison? I'm not sure I'd fly again with any Jetstar affiliate. Fool me once, shame on Jetstar; Fool me twice, isn't going to happen.

Actually the name for Jetstar for the last 8 years in Queensland and on Hamilton Island is Junkstar.
Junkstar is exactly what it is but maybe that is being a little too kind. It is no wonder the other two airlines are always fully booked. A chap at Virgin told me one time that having Jetstar as competition is better for Virgin than having absolutely no competition. When I think about it he is dead right.
I replied privately with this:
"Thanks. Good point.
It is not the first time that companies have run crap services or even dummy companies to drive custom to 'the good guys' ie their own companies.
Wonder if Dickie B would own shares in Junk/Scumstar?
Be smart business!"
Kind of reinforces what you say and I am sure it probably is very much the case.
Junk/ScumStar (--actually I typed ScamStar accidentally; could that be more appropriate?) has to be Worlds Worst Practice.
No one could be that deliberately dumb and bad without a hidden agenda.
What is The ACC doing? Nothing like our politicians who ultimately are to blame

I must say, I like all of Junkstar, Scumstar, Scamstar and Shitstar that have been advanced so far. A few more options are offered: Gypstar; Shamstar; Swindlestar; Zerostar(s). Maybe we should vote for our favourite?
