I rang Jet star to ask them about taking my surfboard with me on a domestic flight. They said this was not a problem after i stressed are there any restrictions, but it would come at an extra cost However customer service failed to warn me that there is a restriction on the length of the surfboard, mine is a few inches over the limit. Unknown to me i go ahead and book the flight, adding on the extra weight to compensate for my surfboard.
Fortunately i double checked luggage limits on booking another flight with jetstar . I then noticed the limit for carrying a surfboard was 1.9m. Immediately I rang customer service but they have no suggestions nor will the refund me and look into this case further. The worst case scenario did not occur; I would have ended up at the airport with an inconvenient dilemma.
If you have a short board then you should be fine.

I had the same problem going to Bali. Ended up getting a custom made over there. 7'00 long.
This was over the limit to come back on jetstar but i bought a cover and turned up at the airport for my flight home. Funnily enough the board arrived in Perth over the max length in tact. Makes me wonder why on earth they have the limit.

I ended up sending my board through smart send from sydney to perth (however they are now trying to charge me $90 for being a few cm out of the original quote).
I did't take my board with me but you could always risk it. I rang jet star in Sydney and they said i wouldn't be able to check it in. I guess it depends who you have on that day as they may be fine with it. You could always give it a ago then if they don't allow you to, then buy an air asia flight that day....

I guess if it fails there are usually services available to transport it. Probably cost you a lot though. Quantos Freight offer that service but i got quoted over $200!
